Behind the Nurse - From the founder of Ink Nurse

Behind Ink Nurse: What I’m Sharing on Substack, Reddit, and Medium (And Why It Matters for Tattooed Aussies and beyond)

Over the last year, Ink Nurse has grown faster than I ever expected, from a niche tattoo aftercare brand to a national product sitting on the shelves of every Chemist Warehouse in Australia. With that growth came another realisation: people want the real story. The behind-the-scenes, the mistakes, the wins, the stress, the retail realities, and the research behind everything we make.

That’s why I’ve started writing more deeply across a few platforms, Substack, Reddit, and Medium, and I wanted to bring everything together here for anyone who wants to follow along.

This post acts as a central hub for the long-form insights I’m now publishing across the web, with links for anyone who wants to dive deeper.

Whether you're a tattooed customer, an artist, a skincare enthusiast, or a founder trying to scale a product business, hopefully this becomes a valuable resource.

Why I’m Sharing More: Transparency, Education, and Better Tattoo Care

Tattoo aftercare and tattoo health in general, is an under-explored category. There’s a lot of misinformation, outdated advice, and marketing noise.

So I’ve made a commitment:
Everything we do at Ink Nurse should be backed by transparency, science, and real-world experience.

Writing outside of this website helps more people find trustworthy information, and helps me share:

  • Retail and supply chain learnings,

  • Tattoo healing science,
  • Industry insights,

  • Small business and founder experiences,

  • Honest breakdowns of what it really takes to grow a physical product brand.

Below are the main places I’m now writing, and why.

1. Substack: Deep Founder Insights & the Ink Nurse Journey

My Substack is where I share longer, more personal, and more detailed reflections on building a global tattoo aftercare brand from Australia.

This includes:

  • Cashflow realities

  • Chemist Warehouse behind-the-scenes

  • Retail forecasting

  • Operational challenges

  • Scaling internationally

  • What I wish I knew earlier

2. Reddit: Community Q&A, Tattoo Science & Industry Myth-Busting

I write under the official Ink Nurse Reddit account to create transparent, evidence-based discussions around tattoo aftercare and tattoo health.

These posts are where I break down:

  • Tattoo healing science and skin physiology

  • Industry myths

  • Misleading aftercare claims

  • Comparisons between products

  • Tattoo cracking, over-moisturising, infection risks, etc.

Reddit allows for long, technical, unbiased discussions, which tattooed Australians love.

3. Medium: Industry Analysis & Big-Picture Thinking

Medium is where I publish polished, thought-leadership pieces about:

  • Retail market shifts

  • Founder psychology

  • Product category building

  • Competing against big pharma

  • The tattoo industry’s evolution

  • How indie brands can out-execute global giants

What’s Coming Next

Over the next year, I’ll be sharing:

  • Tattoo healing studies simplified for everyday people

  • Industry watchdog articles on misleading aftercare claims

  • More retail transparency

  • Tattoo science explained visually

  • Behind-the-scenes of new Ink Nurse products

  • Long-form founder breakdowns

  • Startup frameworks & decision-making models

Ink Nurse has grown because of our community, so this writing is my way of giving back, with honesty, depth, and hopefully some value.
